Oral Appliance Therapy

There are a couple of options in treating sleep apnea. Before a plan of treatment can be determined, a sleep study must first be performed to determine one’s severity of symptoms.

Generally a CPAP device is the most common form of treatment. However another option is an Oral Appliance Therapy for mild to moderate sleep apnea. Many patients find oral appliances more comfortable and tolerable to CPAPs. American Academy of sleep medicine recommends oral appliance as first line of treatment for mild to moderate sleep apnea.

We’re pleased to provide the SomnoGuard AP pro , An oral appliance as part of our comprehensive sleep practice. The SomnoGuard AP pro is made by dentist taking a mold of a patient’s teeth, which will be used to create the oral appliance. Once the appliance is custom made, the patient returns to the office and dentist ensure the appliance fits properly and teaches patient how to use it.

The SomnoGuard AP pro is a custom made ,two-piece, adjustable and designed to enable the lower jaw to be advanced forward, relative to the upper jaw, bringing the tongue and associated musculature forward, thus opening and stabilizing the upper airway.  It also enables the patient to breathe through the mouth as well as move the jaw side to side to optimize comfort.
